Team Circle: The team circle at the beginning of each practice provides an opportunity to introduce key character-building principles to the players. The Y’s core values—caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility—can be woven into real game situations. For example, cooperating with teammates reflects care for others. We’ll offer suggestions on how to briefly integrate these values during team circle time.
Tactics and Skills: Tactics involve understanding game strategies, like maintaining ball possession, and knowing when and how to solve challenges faced in the game. Skills encompass physical abilities like passing, shooting, and ball control.
Rules and Traditions: Introduce the sport’s rules gradually through gameplay and skill practice. Traditions or the unspoken practices players follow, help maintain courtesy and safety, such as raising a hand after fouling or collaborating with teammates.
Fitness Awareness: Even young children can grasp basic health concepts, like exercise benefiting heart health.
