2-time NCAA All-American (University of Texas)

Owner of the ATP Super-Challenger, Arizona Tennis Classic

Born in Phoenix, Arizona. Lives there to this day.

Jonny grew up as one of the dominant junior players in the Southwest section, reaching the finals of Kalamazoo, before signing with the University of Texas in 1981. He played #1 singles from the day he arrived,

achieving All-American status two times before turning pro in 1984. While still at UT, Jonny played the US Open as an amateur, reaching the 3rd round, before losing to Ivan Lendl. Jonny is a USTA Southwest Hall of Famer and was inducted into the University of Texas Sports Hall of Honor in 2022. Jonny is now a very successful businessman in Phoenix and stays very involved in professional tennis.

He brought an ATP Challenger to Phoenix in 2019, and The Arizona Tennis Classic is now a Super Challenger, played in mid-March, coinciding with the final week of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells.

"I love the fact that we have this pro event in Arizona during the hard-court sunshine swing. I have always wanted to contribute to the success of American tennis and American players, and I believe our tournament does some of that. We bring in some of the best players in the world, guys that are often on the verge of really breaking out and becoming stars. Watching those players embark on their respective journeys is something I enjoy very much, and our fans seem to feel that same way."
