High-Performance Tennis Coach | Davis Cup Captain | Player Development Specialist

With more than 25 years of combined experience as a high-performance athlete and elite tennis coach, Jhonny Berrido has built a distinguished reputation for developing top-tier talent across the junior, collegiate, and professional levels. His coaching philosophy—rooted in discipline, consistency, and a profound respect for the game—has guided countless players to exceed expectations, maximize their potential, and achieve success on national and international stages.

Jhonny’s journey in tennis began as a standout junior athlete, earning an ITF Top 100 ranking, becoming the Dominican Republic National Champion (2001), and representing his country in the Davis Cup from 2001 to 2012. His collegiate career at the University of Louisville further showcased his excellence, where he earned a full athletic scholarship, won the 2006 Big East Conference Championship, secured multiple NCAA Tournament appearances, and was recognized as Conference USA Freshman of the Year (2003). His resilience and competitive spirit were acknowledged with Louisville’s prestigious “Mental Toughness Award.”

Transitioning seamlessly from athlete to coach, Jhonny has dedicated his career to the growth and mastery of his players. His coaching résumé includes an extensive list of high-performing ITF juniors, guiding athletes such as Coco Gauff, Charlotte Owensby, and Elvina Kalieva to top international rankings and prestigious junior titles—including multiple Junior Orange Bowl championships and Gauff’s rise to ITF World #1.

On the professional circuit, Jhonny has coached and traveled with ATP and WTA athletes including Victor Estrella Burgos, Nick Hardt, Jose Hernández, Roberto Cid Subervi, and Peter Bertran, providing pre-competition training, strategic development, and tournament travel support. One of his most memorable coaching moments came during the 2018 Australian Open, preparing Estrella for a highly anticipated match against Rafael Nadal. His work with WTA players is equally notable, supporting athletes such as Coco Gauff, Panna Udvardy, Grace Min, Sofia Kenin, and Alisa Kleybanova through Grand Slams, WTA events, and intensive preseason training blocks.

Jhonny’s leadership extends beyond individual player development. Since 2022, he has served as Davis Cup Captain for the Dominican Republic, guiding the team through ties against Vietnam, Latvia, Monaco and Bolivia, culminating in becoming Group III Champions in 2024.

Dedicated to professional mastery, he holds certifications from the PTR Professional, USTA High Performance, ITF (Level II), and USTA Sport Science, and has contributed to numerous national programs, workshops, and coaching initiatives.

Known for his passion, energy, and tailored developmental plans, Jhonny brings his players not just expert coaching, but a high-performance mindset—one built on effort, structure, and belief. Whether preparing juniors for collegiate recruitment, guiding professionals through tour schedules, or mentoring families through the competitive tennis landscape, he remains committed to shaping athletes who compete with purpose and confidence.

Jhonny continues to coach full-time, offering high-performance training, developmental planning, tournament scheduling, travel coaching, and collegiate preparation services. Fluent in both English and Spanish, he works closely with athletes and families to build long-term success grounded in character, discipline, and excellence.
