Jean-Luc Martin,
Senior Contributor

After retiring from touring with Cirque du Soleil Jean-Luc Martin migrated to Hollywood and became a successful stuntman on many films, TV shows and commercials. He soon found his place as a line producer for many filmmakers and studios.

As an athlete, Jean-Luc has participated in many sports including Rugby, American Football, Hockey, Rock Climbing and Kayaking. After leaving formal school he was introduced to body movement and the art of circus where he then trained at École Nationale de Cirque in Montreal and has performed with Cirque du Soleil, Pickle Family Circus and Circus Knie.

With so much gathered knowledge from production and acrobatics Jean-Luc decided to return to his first love; circus arts, creating his own San Diego Circus Center.

Although his Center’s programs are directed toward students who aspire to become professional circus artists, circus lives in all sports. Training within the five pillars of circus offers a detailed analysis of biomechanics that is unlike any other. This offers enhanced performance for athletes who cross train from sports like figure skaters, synchronized swimmers, acro sport, gymnastics, and mainstream sports.

Many elite athletes from mainstream sports train with Jean-Luc and San Diego Circus Center’s world class staff for career transition into the circus and performing arts.

Jean-Luc’s San Diego Circus Center programs have helped athletes become artists who have gone on to companies like Cirque du Soleil, SeaWorld, 7 fingers and other well established organizations. His programs concentrate on the five pillars of circus: Aerial, Ground, Dance, Rebound and Clown.

San Diego Circus Center has partnered with Cirque du Soleil’s ‘NexGen’ program where CDS provides coaching, choreographers, curricula and ongoing support to assist in building high caliber artists.
