Senior Contributor
Ildiko Strehli, Ph.D., OLY, is an Olympian, physical activity and well-being scientist, and educator who is passionate about bringing sport education to every school and community. As an Olympic athlete, Dr. Strehli believes sport is a powerful vehicle for building healthy, connected communities and for advancing our shared contribution to humanity.
She began her academic and athletic career in Hungary as an honors student, competitive swimmer, track athlete, and marathon runner, while also teaching physical education, outdoor adventure, and skiing. After moving to the United States, she became one of North America’s top ski instructors, earning PSIA Level 3 certification and building decades of experience in sport instruction and education.
As a bobsled driver, Dr. Strehli and her teammate, Eva Kurti, finished in 13th place at the XIX Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, marking her place in history as one of the first athletes to compete in women’s bobsleigh when the sport debuted at the Olympic Games.
Dr. Strehli holds a Ph.D. in Physical Activity and Well Being from the University of Utah, a Master of Arts in Physical Education Teacher Education from Semmelweis University, and a Master of Arts in Education in Kinesiology with a specialization in Adapted Physical Education from the University of Virginia. Through her academic and professional work, she bridges elite sport, science, and education to translate evidence-based principles into practical strategies that support lifelong health, performance, and leadership.
Through SPORTSEDTV and public speaking engagements, she shares insights at the intersection of sport, education, and service—empowering schools, athletes, and communities to thrive through movement and purpose.
“I’m reminded of what we can accomplish—together. The Olympic Games remind us of the power of healthy communities and of our shared contribution to humanity.”
