Alex Giorgetti is a renowned former water polo player, celebrated for his significant contributions to the Italian national team from 2005 to 2017. As a forward, Giorgetti's stellar performances were instrumental in many of Italy's victories on the international stage.
Giorgetti's illustrious career is highlighted by his remarkable achievement as a World Champion at the 2011 championships in Shanghai, where he was also named the best player of the tournament. In the same year, he secured a silver medal at the World League in Florence, emerging as both the top scorer and the best player of the tournament. His prowess continued at the 2012 London Olympics, where he helped Italy claim a silver medal.
His list of accolades includes bronze medals at the 2014 European Championships in Budapest and the 2012 World League in Almaty. Earlier, in 2009, he was a key player in securing a bronze medal at the Mediterranean Games in Pescara.
One of the highlights of Giorgetti's career was receiving the prestigious "Golden Collar" for Sporting Merit as a World Champion in 2012, awarded in the CONI Hall of Honor by high-ranking officials, including the President of the Council of Ministers, Mario Monti, and the President of the Italian National Olympic Committee, Gianni Petrucci. Later that year, he was honored with the "Silver Medal" for Sporting Merit by the President of the Republic, Giorgio Napolitano, in recognition of his Olympic achievements.
Giorgetti's journey in international water polo began early. He earned a silver medal with the Italian Junior National Team at the 2007 FINA World Championships in Long Beach, setting the stage for his future successes.
Today, Alex Giorgetti is remembered not only for his skill and dedication in the pool but also for his role as a mentor and inspiration to upcoming generations of water polo athletes.
