The set up for this exercise should be the same as that employed for the power snatch off blocks. The emphasis here is on dropping quickly into the full overhead squat position while catching the bar overhead. A heavier weight should be employed; i.e. one that is too heavy to power snatch. be comfortable dropping into the full overhead squat position. Now this drop speed must be increased and there is a premium placed on proper footwork. Working off of blocks eliminates the pull from the floor to power position and thus allows the athlete to concentrate on the full high pull and quick transition to the catch and push under.
