THE 7 BALL DRILL. If you want to quickly gain offense in a point and master the art of shot selection, practice this drill! In this video, Cesar Wicha Castaneda shows you the drill he used the consistently during the development of Kei Nishikori at IMG Academies and Milos Raonic at Tennis Canada during their transition from juniors to the pros. The 7 BALL DRILL is a simple pattern used by the pros to gain control in a point and set up for the offensive shot. Here is how this pattern works. The 1st shot is a heavy forehand crosscourt, the objective is to push your opponent back to get a ball somewhere in the middle of the court. The second shot is an inside out forehand, forcing your opponent to run to the other side and hit a high percentage crosscourt. The third shot is a backhand down the line, forcing your opponent to run side to side again and hit another high percentage crosscourt. The same pattern is repeated again and the 7th ball is expected to be a short ball ready for your put away shot! Try it today!
