MOVE BETTER: LATERAL MOVEMENT

This drill is suitable for all levels of play. You can advance the drill by increasing time, reps, or the number of lights and light placement on the court.
The main keys of this drill are to be off your heel in a ready position, mimic a point being played, take off with the correct foot for efficient movement, focus on the recovery step to achieve the maximum amount of light to deactivate, shuffle to the light closer to the center, turn to run for the far light, cross-step to recuperate from the far lights to the center, continue to engage your quad and maintain complete focus, and recognize your court position.
To set up the drill, you'll need five FITLIGHT® placed on the court. One player goes at a time, starting at the baseline. The near/far light on the trip will direct the player where to move. All lights on the ground will have a set, specific color. Once the tripod light lights up, the player has to deactivate that light with the correct lateral movement for the hit and for the recovery.
This tennis fitness drill can be done for reps or time, and today we have set the interval to 30 seconds. Practicing this tennis drill will make you a stronger and faster tennis player when done right. Using the FITLIGHT® will help you train your brain and your body to react properly to any situation thrown your way. You can even do this drill practically anywhere and it is a great drill for warm-up before a match to start entering the focus zones as well as firing up the legs.
Remember, to get the most out of this drill, you must perform it at 200%. Your coach will guide you through the drill, reminding you of the purpose and main keys, and may add other points of knowledge about the drill or skill throughout the session.
