DOUBLES TIP - TWO BACK ON RETURN. Jane Forman, former WTA Top-50 player, shows the doubles tactic of having both players stay back on the return of serve, and then attacking the net together. She calls this drill 'The Wall'.
When both players stay back, you take some of the pressure off the returner because you eliminate the chance of a floating return creating an easy put away volley at ...your teammate at the net. With this tactic, the returner can put the ball in play, force the other team to hit the return deep. If they return short (service line area), both returning team players can move in together, creating a 'WALL' at the net that will be hard to penetrate. Do this consistently and you will force errors and create easy volley winner opportunities.
