FAQ

It is difficult to definitely answer this question. 7 different punching techniques are commonly used in Poomsae. However, for Kyorugi, only one technique is authorized using the knuckle part of the tightly clinched fist (Baro jireugi / Bandae Jireugi). Various surfaces of the hand may be engaged as the striking surface depending on which area of the opponent’s body which is being targeted. The body is divided into 3 main regions: Head “Olgul”, Trunk “Momtong” and the lower body part “Arae”. We can use the same punch for each of these regions. This leads to a large array of hand positions.

Punching is allowed in Taekwondo in Combat but only to the trunk protector. No punching is allowed to the face, head or neck. In technical Taekwondo (Poomsae), high punch to the head could be executed against an imaginary opponent.

Punch to attack the opponent at the height of head. It could use several forms of the punch depending of the distance and the angle.
