an important part in setting up the rally for the service team's benefit.
The key focus will be on consistency, accuracy, serving to your strengths, and serving to your opponent's weaknesses.
This drill consists of setting up a drill based on the player's experience using cones, lines, or spots.
For beginners, use cones or lines to split the transition zone to focus on depth. Set up the court and have the player hit five serves, focusing on consistency (5 in a row, however, bonus points for depth). Have talent hit five serves and score.
For improvers, set up three depths to focus on accuracy. First, set up the court and have talent five serves with scoring as follows: Three points for the deepest zone, two for the center, and one for the closest.
For advanced players, you could mix it up to have them focus on touch to get three points for the closest zone.
For improvers, change up the drill to lanes to focus on accuracy based on lanes. Set up three lanes and have talent hit five serves with three points for the zone nearest the centerline, two for the outside line, and one for the center. You can also add depth to your lanes for more advanced talent. You can score adjust the scoring to focus on different shots.
This drill is great to practice by yourself to increase consistency and accuracy. A reminder that the pickleball rules call for the player to only get one chance to get the serve in. Be nimble and change things up to focus on hitting different court parts.
