Pickleball strategy: When to counterattack and when to block
In this pickleball lesson coach Sarah Ansbury demonstrates the technical strategy behind the question, when to counter, and when to block. The first component is having a good paddle position and body position set you up to be able to counterattack your opponent's ball instead of having to block.
The purpose of this pickleball lesson is to show what offensive positioning ...looks like vs. a defensive position in pickleball.
The player's primary focus is the paddle position. The paddle shall be away from the body, weight forward, and always be ready and off the heels.
During this pickleball lesson coach Sarah will show you how to get hips underneath the player, the paddle away from the body, prepare for the ball sooner, and be ready to turn the shoulders with the paddle.
In this pickleball drill, the coach puts pressure on the mid-court player, trying to get into a counterattack position.
This is always a challenge but worth it when you find yourself attacking balls back to your opponent that you may normally get hit with or jammed, forcing you to block. Learning this pickleball strategy enables you to have both.
Another pickleball lesson recommended is "RECOGNIZE WHEN TO ATTACK OR HIT A BLOCK SHOT IN PICKLEBALL." Resetting the ball is key to getting back into a neutral position and taking your game to the next level, decreasing the chances of unforced errors and getting into a favorable position to attack the next shot. Coach Sarah demonstrates different situations to hit a block shot. Shot selection is important to put your team in the best possible position when you are out of position or under attack and unable to counterattack.
