The lob is a fundamental shot in pickleball. This shot is hit with height and depth to pass over the head and paddle of the opposing team. This shot will give your team time to recover and also push your opponents out of position. This shot can be done in any zone of the court, but as you advance in play, it is mostly used at the Non Volley Zone line (NVZ) or the kitchen. During this pickleball lesson, Coach Carrie Lane explains basic pickleball tips of what to look for in your opponents that would lend to using a lob. The key focus of the offensive lob in pickleball is to move your opponent off the Non Volley Zone NVZ line or the Kitchen line. This pickleball strategy is usually done as a surprise shot and it is disguised by using a dink motion. It is important that as a player, you master the dinking technique to use the lob effectively. If you are trying to learn how to hit a lob in pickleball, check out the "How To Hit A Lob" lesson in our pickleball library. This lesson will show you the fundamentals of how to hit a lob. Coach Carrie Lane will show the grip, body and feet positioning, a first step to transfer your body weight, and the arm/paddle position. Because the lob is a fundamental shot, this lesson will help you learn to do it correctly to catch your opponent off guard and move opponents away from the kitchen or non volley zone (NVZ) or Kitchen. The lob is hit like a dink with an exaggerated follow-through motion. To learn how to dink like the pros watch the “Pickleball Lesson for Dinking • Cross-Court and Down the Line” lesson in our pickleball library. Dink like the pros with these pickleball tips from the best, Coach Sarah Ansboury, Education Consultant and Lead Clinician for the Professional Pickleball Registry (PPR). Sarah explains how focusing on position contact, and follow-through technical components are the key to improving the dinking game by concentrating on paddle preparation, follow-through, and contact point away from the body.
