THE STAB GOAL KICK - Winning Goalkeeping Skill for Ages 14+. Former Division 1 goalkeeper and experienced coach Brian Galvin teaches a goal kick technique in this goalkeeper training video. The Stab Goal Kick allows a keeper to find their teammates with a long and accurate pass. This drill is important as it teaches the technique behind a long straight kick, which is essential for a team to keep possession ... when playing out of the back is not the right option. Keepers should approach the ball with small steps that grow into larger ones, and on contact the striking foot should contact the ball and the ground at the same time. The striking point is the bottom of the ball, ensuring that the kick will get enough height. The follow-through is very short, ending almost immediately after contacting the ball, which again ensures more height and distance. Goalies should practice this often, with a focus on distance and accuracy, as being proficient at this skill is very important for any goalkeeper looking to improve.
