STATIONARY DIVING – Winning Goalkeeping Skills 4. Former Division 1 Goalkeeper, Brian Galvin, teaches a solo practice drill for young goalies that improves technique. Set up two disc cones a foot apart in a row, behind the center of the six yard box. Set up four additional disc cones, two on either side angled outwards from the goal and far enough apart from the center of the six yard box
...
for the goalie to complete a full length dive to a ball placed at each of the most outward cones. The goalie will start behind the six yard box and will bounce forward on his toes to the line swinging his arms as levers. From there the goalie will focus briefly in the ready stance and then dive forward at an angle to each side to complete the save and gather the ball into their hands. Be sure that the goalie drives their inside hand across and underneath their chin onto the ball and that they maintain a nice angled shape out to the ball. Practice 8 times daily.
