KNEELING DIVING – Winning Goalkeeping Skills 1 for Ages 10-13. Former Division 1 Goalkeeper, Brian Galvin, teaches the first foundational drill for goalies by starting a dive from their knees. This drill isolates the keepers hands and shape as they dive towards the ball so that we can work on those specific techniques. Have the goalie start from the center of the six yard box and roll balls to either
...
side of them. Use this dive to teach the goalies the three hand technique; their lead hand should be behind the ball, in front of their head, their second hand should be above the ball while we use the ground as our ‘third’ hand. The legs should follow through with knees bent to finish the dive with their upper knee connected to their elbow for both power and protection. Insure that the goalie dives forward on a positive angle away from his line. This allows the keeper to attack the ball and insures that any parries of the ball by the keeper end up wide of the goal. This drill should be completed 8 reps per side 2-3 times per day.
