In this soccer ball control drill, the goal is to teach how to master keeping the head up while dribbling, using FITLIGHTS.
The purpose of the drill is to work on DRIBBLING, AWARENESS, and REACTION SPEED. While doing a simple ball control drill, the player must keep their head up and watch 3 lights in a line in front of them. When all three light up, two will be the

same color and one will be a different color. The player must dribble to the odd color as fast as possible and deactivate that light.
This activity forces players to keep their head up while dribbling, process visual information, and make a reactive decision, exactly like they have to do in a match.Players should stay on their toes, and keep their eyes on the lights as much as possible. Use sharp touches with both feet, and burst into space while calling out the target color when the lights activate.
This drill can be used as frequently as needed. Staying aware of one’s surroundings while dribbling is an essential skill. By using FITLIGHTS, players will be able to measure their improvement overtime, in this case being how quickly they recognize and deactivate the correct light. Any foot-skill challenges can be used at the start of the exercise, including tapping the ball between the feet, toe taps, and alternating inside-outside touches with both feet.
